Agents, The
The Agents were formed in 1976 by a trio of Finnish musicans tired of hearing the same rotten music coming out of England. Original sounds and organ solos started off the trio's path to greatness but it was around 1981 that they finally got their big break. Their Top Twenty hit 'What You See Is What You Get (And There's No Use Whinging About It)' broke the glass ceiling for Finnish music in England and were the front runners for many of the other bands that came along after them. Consisting of Esa and Joakim Andréasson , two brothers from Helsinki taking the lead guitar and vocals with Joakim taking the bass playing the organ when called for, and Villpu Rolvsson on drums.
Ayla
Ayla de la Fontaine, called simply by her first name, is one of the up and comming DJs in magical England. Blasting onto the scene in early 1982, she can be found most nights spinning at the East India Company. She is best known for her eleborate costumes and her heart stopping beats. Branching out and contracting to play at many of the most recent Ministry organized functions has caused many of her early fans to call her a sell out but she has replied that a job is a job. Dating, and rumoured to actually be married to Marius de la Fontaine, Ayla has no signs of slowing down her mixes and tries her best to come up with the freshest sound around.
Benjy Boogeyman
Album "Palacially Rotten" nominated for Album of the Year at the 1983 MMAs.
Buzz Killingtons
The Buzz Killingtons, established in 1982 are one of the first French metal bands to arrive on the English charts and are still fighting for their position toward the top. They are fronted by a small muggleborn named Terabithia O'Hara known for her vocal range and her ballgowns on stage. Marius Yaxley on the drums, Zander Cruise on guitar, and Chance Proudfoot on bass. They have toured with Parasiiti during their last Eastern European tour and have just released their first album titled Magic Murder Bag. Nominated for Best Single by a Band or Duet at the 1983 MMAs for Box Social.
Celestina Warbeck
Cranked Crups, The
The fabulous but still wonderfully gritty answer to punk - glam rockers out of New York. Think of the early New York Dolls (loud, opinionated, cross-dressers) plus magic.
Glowing Pickles, The
A flash in the pan pop rock band that seemed to draw quite a bit of attention from musical juggernauts, The Weird Sisters. They popped onto the charts about mid-July, remaining there with their single, "How to Beat a Moleman Into Submission", for around a month. The band then disappeared from the charts and has yet to be heard from again.
Hairy Hags, The
Punk band, friendly with The Weird Sisters. Co-headlined a U. K. tour with them in 1979.
Hexmen, The
Album "Sock It" nominated for Album of the Year at the 1983 MMAs
Hobgoblins, The
Popular band, formerly fronted by Stubby Boardman.
Kashay Kids
An Australian twelve (formerly fifteen) piece band, which combines all genres and sounds for a truly unique sound. The band was formed in 1970 and has had very few lineup changes over the years, but they regularly add in new, unconventional instruments (eg. didgeridoos, bongo drums, ukuleles, lyres, etc). In early 1982, three of the Kashay Kids' fan favourites split from the band to form their own band, the Three Shanes (see below). The move was controversial, but their choice to not replace the three seemed to garner favour from the fans, and they remain one of the most popular Australian bands currently in music.
Nominated for Best Album Cover (moving) and Best Rock Performance for Duo or Group with Vocals at the 1983 MMAs. They won Best Rock Performance for Duo or Group with Vocals
Parasiiti
See main Parasiiti entry.
Pirate Riot
Formed in the fall of 1978, Pirate Riot was a small punk band out of Cardiff, Wales by Myron Wagtail by placing an ad in the Daily Prophet. The group consisted of: Myron Wagtail on vocals and bass, Jason Verne on drums, Velo Jensson on guitar and Patrick Berne on keyboard. Together they produced two singles, Who Drank All of the Tea? and Stop Screaming While I Hit You! The band fell apart during the Spring of 1979, due to the border closure around England and Jasons conviction of arson and three counts of murder. There have been rumors of the band reforming now that Wags has climbed to fame with the Weird Sisters, but nothing has been discussed with the whole band seeing how Jason is still in Azkaban.
Poison Ivy
Album "Hexed in the Back" nominated for Album of the Year at the 1983 MMAs
Reginald Powers
Classical pianist. Was awarded Classical Album of the Year and Best Album Cover (Moving) at the 1983 MMAs. Has a bit of a rivalry with Celestina Warbeck.
Stubby Boardman
Former lead singer for the Hobgoblins, retired in 1980 when he was hit in the ear by a turnip during a show.
Three Shanes (more recently Three Shanes Minus One, for humourous purposes)
The Australian forerunner to grunge rock, these dirty rockers from down under had immediate fame for their years playing with the Kashay Kids. The Three Shanes (each of which are really named Shane) had a short run at the top of the Australian charts, and reaching a respectable middle spot in the British and US charts, before tragedy struck at the 1983 MMAs, effectively ending their musical careers.
The band consisted of
-
Shane "Mac" Mcghehey: Lead singer and bassist, McGhehey was the former accordion player for the Kashay Kids. After the destruction of the MMAs, McGhehey was forced to have his right leg amputated, and has since received a prosthetic.
-
Shane "Siggy" Siegel: Guitarist, Siegel was formerly the banjo player for the Kashay Kids, as well as a founding member. Since the destruction of the MMAs, Bruce has been paralysed from about the waist down, and has been bound to a wheelchair.
-
Shane "Brucey" Bruce: Drummer, Bruce was the trombone player for the Kashay Kids, and a major fan favourite for his comedy and beat-boxing skills. The destruction of the MMAs killed him. He had a three-year-old son, Dewey, by his ex-wife, Morgan Webb.
The band was nominated for Best Rock Song and Best Magic Form Music Video (which they won). After the tragedy at the MMAs, the Kashay Kids, along with fellow Australian bands, Masked Deity and Capital Press, put on a tour to raise money for the remaining Shanes, as well as other victims of the MMA bombing.
Umlauti
Called the side project of Parasiiti member, Burton Jones, Umlauti is in fact the brain child of Liz Jones, Burton's wife. Created in 1983 just in time for Wiz Aid, Umlauti has been slowly inching up the charts with the song writing skills of Regulus Black and Burton Jones. Currently on tour supporting Parasiiti, Umlauti is based mostly in the USSR with a single Irish member. They consist of:
-
Liz Jones : Lead Singer, most well known for her apparel on stage and her slightly sweet singing voice over which she screams
-
Burton Jones: Drumer, the most famous member of the band, letting them tour with his main project, the Parasites and leading his vocals to a few of the tracks.
-
Lucas Wilde: Bassist, usually seen walking around on stage slightly confused, the tallest member of the band was the last addition as his wife, Charlotte Wilde, is the manager for the Weird Sisters and he owns The Blackbird. The only member not from the USSR.
-
Nick Wamboliski: Unknown, little is known of where Nick appeared from but it is rumoured that Nick, along with Angel and Jake, were friends of the Jones's when they were younger and just joined the band because it seemed like the most fun. Has been known to wear a hat on stage with his name on it that lights up.
-
Angel Francis: Lead Guitarist, the shortest member of the Umlautis, Angel is most well known for running around on stage like a hyperactive monkey. Has actually run into Liz while she was singing before causing the band to take a break while Liz healed her broken nose.
-
Jake Agapitov: Guitar, the taller of the two Jakes with longer hair and it is rumoured that he joined the band after a rocky relationship with Burton's twin brother, Midge Jones. Known to lug his own equiptment around along with everyone else's, Jake is usually the quieter one of the band.
-
Jake Lebedev: Keyboard, Jake came into the band with the other Jake and has been rumoured to have a past relationship with Burton. Most well known for carrying a camera on stage with him to take photos and is banned from France because of a small problem involving a car, a monkey and a crate of bananas.
The Umlauti group will be producing an album over the next few months and hope to have it out before the new year. It is unknown what will happen as Liz is also trying to juggle the ownership of Victorian Corsetry and Burton is focusing on the Parasites. But their single has been charting and Liz recentally got the Kerrang!Russia 1983 award for Best Duet with Regulus Black. Though they were nominated for Best New Artist but lost to Parasiiti.
